Salinization experiment started (CLİM-SALTLAKES project)
CLIM-SALTLAKES experiment started at the METU Biology Mesocosm System on 9th of September. Experiment aims to address the effect of climate change and salinization on biodiversity and lake ecology in the Turkish lakes. To simulate brackish/saline lakes, the experiment has 16 mesocosms having salinities ranging from 0 to 50 parts per thousand salinity and will run for 3 months. Same mesocosm set-up is under running in METU Institute of Marine Sciences at Mersin to compare the impacts in a Southern location having a hotter climate (i.e. latitudinal impacts). The project also has remote sensing and modelling approaches. For more information please see the recent interview by DHA from here and video from here.
